This Week On Treasure Island Oldies

This week on Treasure Island Oldies
June 13th, 2010 to June 19th, 2010

I would like to begin this week's update by sending out my heartfelt congratulations to Rich in Hillside, Illinois. He and Kitten Connie were married this past week; and when he called into the Listener Line, he made the big announcement on the show. What a surprise it was for me and everyone listening, including the Chat Room regulars, the Nuts in the Hut. Rich has been a long time listener and friend and to hear this exciting news is just so great. He will be moving to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to live with his bride. Once again, congratulations and all the very best to Rich and Connie!

It was great to hear from Jacqueline in Ohio who emailed her requests to me. It was my pleasure to play Elton John and Kiki Dee with Don't Go Breaking My Heart and Dream A Little Dream Of Me by Mama Cass Elliot. I welcome your requests too. Call the 24/7 Listener Line at 206-203-4678 and record your message or Click the Requests button on any page of the website to get in touch with me via email. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

I'd also like to say hi to some folks who are not feeling all the great at the moment. My best wishes for a full and speedy recovery go out to Roy in Campbell River, British Columbia, who is undergoing a hip transplant this week. Shirley in Cincinnati, Ohio is recovering from eye surgery, while Fred, Craig, Sunny, Matt and our own webmaster, Eddy Fisher, are all not operating at 100%. Hope you all feel much better soon.

Be sure to join us next week for the first of three consecutive specials, our Annual Fathers Day Special and in two weeks it's our 14th Annual Summer Beach Party. The following week, Sunday, July 4th it's our Annual Music of Canada Special. I am really looking forward to these specials.

Thanks for the very nice feedback on our two new features, the Music Link and the Memory Test. This week's Music Link was The Flying Saucer by Buchanan and Goodman and The Martian Hop by The Ran-Dels. Of course, the Music Link was Flying Saucer and Martian. And the Memory Test was by Denny Reed from East St. Louis, Illinois with his 1959 song, A Teenager Feels It Too. You can find out the artist name and song title for every song played on the show every week. Just go to the Listen page and scroll down to the Playlist.

The Treasure Island Oldies Blog has been given a facelift after over 800 postings, and I'm pleased with the new layout and design. I hope you enjoy it. And this week we're playing a song that was originally recorded in 1964 by Ian & Sylvia from Canada, and covered in 1965 by We Five. You Were On My Mind is our Song of the Week. Enjoy!

Voice Your Choice features the big band sound of Chicago with two of their softer hit songs: Just You And Me and Colour My World. Cast your vote for the song you'd like to hear at the Voice Your Choice page. We'll play the winner in the 3rd hour of next week's show.

I am so pleased with the number of people who enjoy the Rock & Roll News Podcast every week. You can download it at the iTunes store by searching for Treasure Island Oldies Rock & Roll News Podcast. There are over 11,000 downloads every month! Thank you. You can also enjoy the Top 5 Countdown but it is not available for download. However, you can listen to it at any time on the Listen page.

The Listener Gallery has recently been updated with a new picture from Guylaine in Quebec City, Quebec. Send in your photo, name, city and province or state to michael@treasureislandoldies.com and our webmaster will post it on the Listener Gallery page.

I hope you have a great week and see you next Sunday for the live show.

Bye for now.

Michael
