This Week On Treasure Island Oldies

February 27th, 2011 to March 5th, 2011

A big hello and welcome to two more stations to the Treasure Island Oldies Broadcast Partners Network. I'd like to say I am very pleased to now be part of RAG-FM 107.7 in Raglan, New Zealand, where we will be with you every Monday afternoon from 3 to 7 p.m. And closer to home here in Canada, it is great to be now on Backspinradio.com in Edmonton, Alberta. We'll be keeping you company every Saturday afternoon from 2 to 6 p.m. and again overnight Monday from 2 to 6 a.m. I am so pleased to see the continued growth of Treasure Island Oldies, and I know you share in my excitement.

The Chat Room was really busy with lots of the regular Nuts in the Hut, along with some new visitors as well. It was nice to welcome thecolonel from backspinradio.com to the Chat Room. Boy he sure fit in like a glove. I invite you to join us during the live show Sunday nights as well. Click Chat on the Menu and follow the easy directions.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Becky Clee in Westbank in the beautiful Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, my friend and fellow broadcaster David Marsden in Toronto, Ontario, singer and former child actor Eddie Hodges, and Paul Evans in New York City. What a busy week for birthdays here on the Island. If you have a birthday coming up, I'd like to help celebrate igt with all the Treasure Island Oldies listeners. Send the details of your birthday to birthdays@treasureisdlandoldies.com. I'll then wish you Happy Birthday on the show and also play our official birthday song for you, Birthday by The Beatles.

It's also been another busy week on Facebook and I am pleased to say I am now friends with Darren Soanes, David Mazmanian (a former record company colleague of mine). Jehan Valiquet, Jean Ouimet, and Johnnie Lovesin, a great guitar player and an artist I did a record with during my A&M Records days as Vice-President A&R. Great to connect with everyone and I invite you to follow me on Facebook too.

If you own a smartphone, this is for you. You  can now listen to the live show Sunday nights as well as the Treasure Island Oldies 24/7 Stream on your smartphone (Android, iPhone or Windows). WunderRadio is the app you need to buy; and reasonably priced at only $6.99. You can get the app at WunderRadio.com. Here's the link for the live stream: http://meta.insinc.com/treasure/treasure.asx. And this is the link for the 24/7 Stream: http://treasureislandoldies.com/ContinuousTIO_2.asx.

You know that I play some of the greatest music of all time from the 50s, 60s and 70s, but occasionally I come across a new recording artists or group that just gets me going. If you recall during the Christmas season I played a fantastic new song, Calling To Say, by Serena Ryder. Well this week on the show I played another great song by a group from Southern California called Fitz And The Tantrums with their infectious song Money Grabber. If you like soul, R&B, Motown, blue eyed soul, this is for you. Not only is this song good, but I bought the whole album and it is really good. I am going to play their video of Money Grabber at the Treasure Island Oldies Blog. Be sure to check it out; and I'd love to hear from you with your opinion. You can get in touch with me via email; it's michael@treasureislandoldies.com

Still over at the Treasure Island Oldies Blog we are featuring an all-time classic R&B tune by The Five Satins. In The Still Of The Night is our Song of the Week. Enjoy!

Voice Your Choice spotlights one of the former lead singers of The Drifters. When a lead singer leave a group to go solo, sometimes things just don't pan out. Fortunately for Ben E. King that was not the case. He went on to scoring several big hits and this week we feature two of them for your votes: Spanish Harlem and Don't Play That Song (You Lied). Which song would you like to hear? Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page. We'll play the winning song in the 3rd hour of next week's show.

Let the world know you're a proud listener of Treasure Island Oldies. Send in your name, photo, city and province or state for the Listener Gallery to michael@treasureislandoldies.com and our Webmaster, Eddy Fisher, will post it on the Listener Gallery page along with the many already received.

You can also let all your friends know you enjoy the show with your personal Treasure Island Oldies Email Signature. A selection of complimentary signatures to be placed at the end of your outgoing emails is available for download. Click Goodies on the upper menu on any page on the website. Thanks to the many folks that have downloaded their own copy of the Email Signature. That's great!

I hope you have a great week and see you next Sunday for the live show.

Bye for now.

Michael
