This Week On Treasure Island Oldies

March 6th, 2011 to March 12, 2011

Last week we welcomed the two latest stations, RAG-FM 107.7 Raglan, New Zealand, as well as BackSpinRadio.net in Edmonton, Alberta, to the Treasure Island Oldies Broadcast Partners Network. This week I am pleased to say that yet another station has joined up. A big hello and welcome to DJsRadio.co.uk in the United Kingdom. We'll be on DJsRadio several times during the week. Be listening Mondays from 8 to 11 a.m., Thursdays between 1 and 4 p.m., then Fridays from 1 to 4 a.m. and once again Sunday from 9 p.m. to midnight. How great is that??!!

It was nice to welcome my old friend Isaac Shane to the studio and the show this week. He was in town from San Diego and it was great getting together. Be sure to check out his show on hitoldies.com Saturdays from 3 to 6 p.m. Eastern.

The Chat Room was busy again this week and it was cool to welcome my old friend Ted Silver, who Isaac and I worked with many years ago at CFOM Quebec City. Al Roberts also joined us and they, along with Isaac, all work at hitoldies.com. We continue to welcome new visitors to the Chat Room every week and we would like to have your company. Just click Chat on the Menu during the live show Sunday nights.

Happy Birthday to Roy Geldart in Campbell River, British Columbia. Roy is a good friend of the show and everyone in the Chat Room. If you have a birthday coming up, I'd like to help celebrate it with all the Treasure Island Oldies listeners. Send the details of your birthday to birthdays@treasureisdlandoldies.com. I'll then wish you Happy Birthday on the show and also play our official birthday song for you, Birthday by The Beatles. Speaking of Birthdays, I sent a quick email to Paul Evans for his birthday last week and he replied that he didn't think he'd remember it was his birthday were it not for yours truly to send him a note every year. Thanks, Paul

I had no idea that I would be getting so much feedback as a result of playing Money Grabber by Fitz And The Tantrums on the show last week. As I said, I don't normally play new music, as it is an oldies show. But it was so good I had to play it for you. Let me tell you I was very surprised to have a listener leave a comment at the You Tube page for the video of Money Grabber. OnTheWatch said "really must say a big THANK YOU, because it is always a thrill hearing a new band that a) really knows how to play and b) plays really good songs. Heard "Moneygrabber" online in this past weekend's Treasure Island Oldies program and was immediately knocked out. Very cool!!!" Very cool indeed. And one of our Broadcast Partner Network stations, The X Real Rock Variety in Champagne, Illinois sent an email saying "I want to personally thank you for introducing me to Fitz & The Tantrums.  As soon as I heard "MoneyGrabber", I was blown away as well.  Listened to the whole album yesterday, and have put MoneyGrabber in regular rotation even though it's not on any of our weekly MediaBase charts.  It's that good. Thanks again, and hope to hear more from Fitz and more like them! Thanks very much Taylor, great hearing from you. Even California Barb called the Treasure Island Oldies Listener Line to say how much she enjoyed hearing Fitz And The Tantrums. I think I just may have to play it again on the show soon.

My thanks to the tech support staff, and Ross in particular, at our network, Mediaontap, for his quick work of getting our Real Media feed up and running this week, when it was not kicking in. And many thanks to our webmaster, Eddy Fisher, for ensuring we did not lose the archive of the show for your repeat listening. Much appreciated.

I am having a blast showing friends and colleagues how cool it is to be able to listen to the show via a smartphone, and in my case my iPhone. If you own a smartphone, this is for you. You  can now listen to the live show Sunday nights as well as the Treasure Island Oldies 24/7 Stream on your smartphone (Android,  iPhone or  Windows). WunderRadio is the app you need to buy; and reasonably priced at only $6.99. You can get the app at WunderRadio.com. Here's the link for the live stream: http://meta.insinc.com/treasure/treasure.asx. And this is the link for the 24/7 Stream: http://treasureislandoldies.com/ContinuousTIO_2.asx.

The Treasure Island Oldies Blog is playing Tower Of Power with their soul classic, So Very Hard To Go. This is a great live performance from Soul Train and it's our Song of the Week. Enjoy!

Voice Your Choice has Creedence Clearwater Revival in the spotlight with two of their many hits: Commotion and Green River. Cast your vote for the song you'd like to hear at the Voice Your Choice page. We'll play the winning song in the 3rd hour of next week's show.

Let the world know you're a proud listener of Treasure Island Oldies. Send in your name, photo, city and province or state for the Listener Gallery to michael@treasureislandoldies.com and our Webmaster, Eddy Fisher, will post it on the Listener Gallery page along with the many already received.

You can also let all your friends know you enjoy the show with your personal Treasure Island Oldies Email Signature. A selection of complimentary signatures to be placed at the end of your outgoing emails is available for download. Click Goodies on the upper menu on any page on the website. Thanks to the many folks that have downloaded their own copy of the Email Signature. That's great!

I hope you have a great week and see you next Sunday for the live show.

Bye for now.

Michael
