This Week On Treasure Island Oldies

May 29th, 2011 to June 4th, 2011

This week's Update is a bit late but I do have a good excuse. If you recall about a couple of months ago on the show I featured a new group, Fitz and the Tantrums, and played their debut single, Money Grabber. On Monday night I went to see them in concert in Vancouver at The Venue. It's an old movie theatre downtown that has been converted into a club, and it sure works well. There were about 250 - 300 people in attendance and were they ever enthusiastic for the group. Fitz and the Tantrums are great musicians and both Fitz and Noelle Scaggs can really sing! The crowd loved them. At the end of the show, the entire band hung out to say hi to their fans and signed autographs, whether or not a purchase was made at the merchandising booth. What was really interesting is that they had three different T-shirts, their CD, as well as the album on vinyl! Of all that was available, they completely sold out of the vinyl. Fortunately I bought the last copy and everyone autographed it for me. We had a great conversation talking about my A&M Records Vice-President days. In telling them I signed Bryan Adams, I said I sure recognize great talent and they are fantastic. They were very pleased. A picture was taken of Fitz and myself and it is posted on the Main Page of the website. I sure hope they continue to do well and become household names. I'll be able to say I knew them when...

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Bruce Toews in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was good playing Birthday by The Beatles for Bruce. And if you have a birthday coming up, be sure to let me know. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com.

Listener Scott Frieden commented on my Facebook page about last week's Song of the Week - Black Is Black by Los Bravos. He asked if I could play their follow-up hit, Bring A Little Lovin' on the show soon. Will do, Scott.

The Treasure Island Oldies Blog is playing The Animals in a clip from the TV show Hullabaloo with guest host George Maharis from the TV show Route 66. The Animals perform It's My Life, which was debuted on the show. It's our Song of the Week. Enjoy!

Voice Your Choice gets soulful this week with O.C. Smith with The Son Of Hickory Hollers Tramp and Little Green Apples. Which song would you like to hear? Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page. We'll play the winning song in the 3rd hour of next week's show.

Be sure to mark your calendar for our next set of specials coming up soon. On June 19th it's our Annual Father's Day Special, followed by the 15th Annual Summer Beach Party on June 26th. The next special will happen July 3rd when we present our Annual Made In Canada Special. Hope you can listen.

Don't forget to check out the show, Live and Archive on your Smartphone. If you need an app, may I suggest www.wunderradio.com. They have a version for all types of smartphones, including Android and iPhone. It's fun to be able to listen on the go. Here's the link for the live stream: http://meta.insinc.com/treasure/treasure.asx. And this is the link for the 24/7 Stream: http://treasureislandoldies.com/ContinuousTIO_2.asx.

Great News for Macintosh OS X Users, we recently have added a Macintosh to our production computers and we have been testing our site and sounds on Macintosh. Since there isn't a Windows Media Player for the Macintosh, our listeners have been limited to only being able to listen to the live show in Real or archives using Real when they are using OS X. We have tested VLC Media Player and it plays back either the Live feed of Windows Media or the 24/7 Windows Media feed (it also plays Real Media files). We encourage you to support such excellent open source programs. Visit the VLC Project and download your copy of their Media Payer for Windows, Linux, Mac and Unix.

You can also let all your friends know you enjoy the show with your personal Treasure Island Oldies Email Signature. A selection of complimentary signatures to be placed at the end of your outgoing emails is available for download. Click Goodies on the upper menu on any page on the website. I hope you have a great week and see you next Sunday for the live show.

Bye for now.
