This Week On Treasure Island Oldies

June 17th, 2012 to June 23rd, 2012

What a wonderful celebration we had together during our Annual Father's Day Special. Hearing all those great songs brings back so many memories and can recall occasions with your dad and perhaps a particular record was playing that has remained with you as a rock-solid memory. It was a treat for me to play such a great variety of songs by so many different artists; yet they all sang about their dads. I truly hope you enjoyed the show.

Be sure to join me next week for our Annual Summer Beach Party. It's our yearly way to bring on the summer season. We'll be setting up for the show at the shore of the Island and Live beginning at 6 pm Pacific time and of course, on the Archive. I'll bring all the great summer tunes and we'll have the BBQ grill all fired up. All you need to bring is your favourite beverage and a ton of sunscreen and maybe some seagull repellent. LOL And in two week's, July 1st,  it's the Annual Made In Canada Special, my annual salute to the artists, groups, songwriters, and even producers that made a dent in the entertainment business across Canada and, in so many cases, around the world. We'll spotlight a whole bunch of great Canadian music. Don't miss it.

With summer about to officially arrive in the Northern hemisphere, it's about time to get a new BBQ Apron for yourself. Gotta look stylish while grilling! You can get your custom Treasure Island Oldies BBQ Apron at the Shop The Island Store. You can also get a great quality summer T emblazoned with your favourite radio show, Treasure Island Oldies, of course. :-) Everything's reasonably priced and custom printed just for you. Please check it out. A portion of your purchase actually comes to Treasure Island Oldies. Your support is appreciated.

My long time friend and colleague, Gerry Young, has written a book about his days as Promotion Manager with Polygram Records and working with such stars as The Bee Gees, Donna Summer, The Kinks, and even Sir Richard Branson and many more. Pop Goes The Weasel - Rock And Roll Off The Record, is a fun and fast-paced read. You'll get a glimpse of many groups and singers that most people never get to see. In some cases, that might not be such a bad idea. Check out Gerry's book at Amazon.com

If you have a birthday coming up, be sure to let me know. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com and I'll wish you Happy Birthday on the show and play Birthday, our official birthday song by The Beatles, for you.

The Treasure Island Oldies Blog is paying tribute to our Annual Father's Day Special by playing My Dad by Paul Peterson. The twist is the song is played over footage of Lucas and Mark McCain, the father and son team in the TV show The Rifleman. Chuck Connors played the father role of Lucas and actor turned singer Johnny Crawford played the role of his son Mark. My Dad  by Paul Peterson is our Song Of the Week. Enjoy!

Voice Your Choice celebrates summer with The Beach Boys with two of their many great summertime tunes. Do you want to hear All Summer Long or Catch A Wave? Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice Page. The winning song will get played in the 3rd hour of next week's show.

Here is this week's Rock & Roll News for the Week of June 17th, 2012
