Happy Halloween! I hope you are enjoying the 17th Annual Halloween Spooktacular and all the scary tunes. If you missed the live show, be sure to listen to the Archive at the Listen page. And there is a complete playlist of all songs on the Halloween Spooktacular, also at the Listen page. Be warned, if your hair is dark, it just may turn white at the end of the four hour show. ROFL

Happy Birthday wishes go out to long time listener and regular requester, California Barb. As well I’d like to send my best wishes to Jamie Anstey in Vancouver, British Columbia, and to Dana Van Dine in New Jersey. If you have a birthday coming up, I invite you to let me know so that I can wish you Happy Birthday on the show and play Birthday by The Beatles for you. While I’m still dealing with the computer crash, I’d like to thank my Webmaster, Eddy Fisher, for doing an amazing job of getting thinks back in order, and so quickly. I do hope that everything will be completed by this weekend; fingers crossed. And to add to the situation, during the live show Sunday the hosting company for this website and the web based chat software went down shortly after the start of the show. What a nightmare! Fortunately it got back up and running before too long. So all in all, thanks for your patience.

Thanks for joining me on our Annual Canadian Thanksgiving Special on Treasure Island Oldies. It was great to play some "thankful" type songs and also to play your requests. The next special will be the 17th Annual Halloween Spooktacular, Live Sunday, October 27.

Leroy Van Dyke - Voice Your Choice

Leroy Van Dyke sure had an interesting life. He was born in Spring Fork, Missouri on October 4, 1929 and eventually worked as a newspaper reporter. In the early 1050s, he served in the U.S. Arm; and later was a livestock auctioneer. Which brings us to his first hit record in late November 1956. It reflected his previous job and was called The Auctioneer. Five years later, he scored his second hit, Walk On By.
And it's those two songs we have lined up for on Voice Your Choice this week.

Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either The Auctioneer or Walk On By, both by Leroy Van Dyke. I'll play the winner in the 3rd hour of next week's show.

The Guess Who - Song Of The Week

The Guess Who help us celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving this week on Treasure Island Oldies with a song that fits perfectly into the theme for this week's special.

From Winnipeg,Manitoba, here are The Guess Who in a live performance of Share The Land. It's our Song Of The Week.

Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving.

This Week On Treasure Island Oldies - Week Of October 6th, 2013

October 6th, 2013 to October 12th, 2013

Although the fall is a lovely time of year for all the dazzling fall colours on the leaves, it's also getting darker earlier. Well we'll plow through autumn and winter together with some hot and bright tunes. And there were lots of great songs on this week's show including your requests, thanks. Not sure you remember, but you can check out every songs played on the show each week by going to the Listen page and scroll down for the latest show Playlist. And next week's Playlist will have lots of songs as part of our Annual Canadian Thanksgiving Special Live next Sunday, October 13 beginning at 6 pm Pacific. I look forward to having you join my on the Island next week.

As you know, every now and then I'll play something new by an artist. Most of the time it is what I refer to as a heritage artist. Recent examples include that latest singles from Paul McCartney, New, and Elton John, Home Again. On this week's show I just felt compelled to share a new artist with you whose album has captivated my attention since I first heard it last week. His name is Blake Morgan and the album is Diamonds In The Dark. In my opinion he is a tremendously talented songwriter, singer, musician (he played every instrument on the album with the exception of the drums) and he also produced it. I was pleased to let you hear the first two songs from the album, Water Water Everywhere and I Can Hear You Say. It is not often that I rant about a new album; this is one time for sure! You can hear snippets of the entire album at iTunes. As I said to his publicist, if this were another time, Blake Morgan would be a household name. Check it out for yourself.

If you have a birthday coming up, I invite you to let me know so that I can wish you Happy Birthday on the show and play Birthday by The Beatles for you. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com.

The Treasure Island Oldies Blog is playing a song that was featured on this week's Tom Locke Moment In Time. It's the Ray Bryant Combo with DJ Eddie Morrison making the calls. The video clip is an instructional video on how to do The Madison, featuring swing and dance specialists Jennifer Comar and Paolo Pasta Lanna. Check out The Madison Time. It's our Song of the Week.

Voice Your Choice spotlights Harry Nilsson with two of his biggest hits. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Without You or Coconut. I'll play the winner in the 3rd hour of next week's show. It'll be interesting to see if his strident ballad or rocking novelty song wins.

Here's the Rock And Roll News for the week of October 6th

Listen to the Top 5 Countdown from 1961

Hope you have a good week and see you next week for the Canadian Thanksgiving Special.

Bye for now.
