This Week on Treasure Island Oldies - Week of June 8th, 2014

June 8th, 2014 to June 14th, 2014

Last week I began the update with the news that long time listener Connie Canode in Madison, Wisconsin, was in the hospital with pneumonia and in the ICU. Well I am pleased to let you know that Connie is doing much better and is not only out of ICU but now also out of the hospital and back home recuperating. Take it easy Connie, and get better soon. My appreciation to her husband Rick, also a long time listener and contributor of the Rick’s Rare Rock & Roll Relic feature every week on the show, for the updates on Connie’s condition. We need our friends in good health.

I’d like to say hi to Rich and Kitten in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who are celebrating their wedding anniversary this week. All the best to you both. And speaking of anniversaries, this week is the 4th Anniversary of the Music Link feature on the show. It’s prepared every week by Paul Carter, Jr., in Ellicott City, Maryland. In recognition of the four years, I decided to play the very first Music Link from 2010. The two songs were Please Mr. Postman by The Marvelettes and The Letter by The Box Tops. And of course, the music link was postman and letter. Thanks Paul, and all the best.

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Nancy Turnbull in Niagara Falls and also to Lynda in Ste. Catharines, Ontario. If your birthday is coming up soon, be sure to send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com. I’ll wish you Happy Birthday and also play Birthday by The Beatles to help you celebrate your special day.

A reminder that next week on Treasure Island Oldies, it’s our Annual Father’s Day Special. The following week, June 22nd is the 18th Annual Summer Beach Party, and then on June 29th  it’s a very popular annual special, the Music of Canada. Be sure to listen to this trio of specials starting next week.

I’m pleased to let you know about a milestone music event, the first concert performance in Canada by The Beatles on Saturday, August 22, 1964. The concert was emceed by future Rock & Roll Hall of Fame DJ Red Robinson. This historic event has been captured in a limited edition print featuring The Beatles and Red Robinson painted by world renowned BC artist, Glen Green. To get more information and to order the poster, which would make a GREAT Father’s Day gift, click on The Beatles 1964Vancouver poster.

The Treasure Island Oldies Blog is playing The Grass Roots in a clip from the Jimmy Durante Show. Let’s Live For Today is our Song of the Week. Enjoy!

Voice Your Choice spotlights Johnny Cash with two songs for our Father’s Day Special. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Daddy Sang Bass or A Boy Named Sue. I’ll play the winner on next week’s show.

Here’s the Rock And Roll News for the week of June 8th.
