January 3rd to January 9th, 2016
Welcome to 2016. I sincerely hope you had great Christmas and New Year celebrations. And thank you for all the very nice comments about the Christmas Special. And it was a pleasure to bring you the first show of 2016, the Annual New Year Dance Party. This show has become a tradition for many years now. If you missed hearing the title of a song, you can always go to the Listen page and scroll down to the Playlist. Every song played on the show is listed.
By the way, we're having some technical issues with the website "backbone" which are causing some elements of the site to not work properly. For example, the 24/7 Stream and the Christmas Special archive are not working. Our webmaster, Eddy Fisher, is working hard at trying to resolve the issues. Please be patient.

I’d like to wish Jill Brown in Cambridge, Ontario, and Shirley Ham in Cincinnati, Ohio a very Happy Birthday. If you have a birthday coming up, please be sure to let me know so that I can celebrate your special day on the show. Send the details to birthday@treasureislandoldies.com. I’ll wish you Happy Birthday on the air and also play Birthday by The Beatles for you.

The Treasure Island Oldies Blog is playing a magnificent performance by Aretha Franklin at the Kennedy Center Honors 2015. Carole King, who co-wrote this classic with Jerry Goffin, was in attendance and overwhelmed with Aretha’s performance. Wait till you see and hear Aretha Franklin perform (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. It’s our first Song of the Week for 2016. Stand by to be blown away!

Voice Your Choice spotlights the British group 10cc with two Godley and Creme classics for your vote. Go to the Voice Your Choice page to cast your vote for either I’m Not In Love or The Things We Do For Love. I’ll play the winner on next week’s show.

In closing, I’d like to pay tribute to some extremely talented people who have passed away over New Year’s Eve and Day. The incredibly talented Natalie Cole was only 65. Vancouver legendary bandleader, Dal Richards, known affectionately as the King of Swing died just a few days prior to turning 98, and would have played his 80th consecutive year of the Dal Richards Orchestra entertaining the crowd on New Year’s Eve at a swanky place in Vancouver. Broadcast colleague and friend, Gary Russell, passed away at 67 after a year-long battle with cancer. And just a short while ago I learned that another broadcast colleague with whom I worked at CJFM in Montreal, Angus McKay, had passed away at only 65. Angus became well known as an underground DJ on CKGM-FM and when they became CHOM-FM. These people will be missed by fans and family.

Take care and please join me next week.

Bye for now.
Michael
