This Week on Treasure Island Oldies - Week of July 2nd, 2017

Week of July 2nd, 2017 to July 8th, 2017

This year's Canada Day on July 1st was the 150th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. I could not think of a better way to celebrate than with the annual Music of Canada Special. The singers, songwriters, musicians, recording engineers, record producers, and recording studios, along with the record companies and music publishers, have all greatly contributed to the success Canadian music enjoys around the world. Today, Canada is a world leader with so many key artists enjoying worldwide fame, including Drake, Justin Beiber, The Weeknd, Arcade Fire, and so many more. So it was with great pride and excitement that I could present some music history for you on the Music of Canada Special this week on Treasure Island Oldies. And wasn't that a great billboard that our webmaster, Eddy Fisher, created for the Music of Canada special? Love that flag proudly waving! And be sure to check out the new billboard he has posted for our next special, the Instrumental Gems Wordless Wonders, coming up August 6th.  Eddy, this is fantastic! Thank very much.

As I mentioned, the Instrumental Gems Wordless Wonders Special will happen August 6th. Judging from the response this special generates, it has become one of the most popular and thoroughly enjoyed specials of the entire year. There was a time when instrumental hits were common. Not only has that changed, but you hardly ever hear any instrumentals on the radio anymore. It's no wonder an entire four hour show dedicated to playing all those great instrumentals, generates such great response. Be sure to join me August 6th. You'll remember every note!

Is your birthday coming up soon? I'd like to know so that I can help celebrate your special day by wishing you Happy Birthday on the show and also by playing Birthday by The Beatles for you. Send the info to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com

This week's Top Five Countdown is from 1967. And landing in at Number One is Windy by The Association. It's playing at the Treasure Island Oldies Blog. Enjoy!

Next week on Treasure Island Oldies, Voice Your Choice spotlights Motown's Firs Lady, Mary Wells. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either The One Who Really Loves You or Two Lovers. I'll play the winning song on next week's show.

Here's this week's Rock and Roll News Podcast.

Thanks again for listening to the show. See you next week.

Bye for now.
