This Week on Treasure Island Oldies - Weeok of January 29th 2017

Week of January 29th, 2017 to February 4th, 2017

It was great spending time with you again this week on the Island, and I'm so pleased that the Chat Room was working perfectly once again. We had a good turnout with the regulars and also very nice to see Kevin McKinnon. Kevin was formerly Manager Broadcast and Delivery Operations at insinc, our former network. The cool thing is Kevin is now the Deputy Fire Chief City of Grand Forks, BC. It was great to catch up with him. You never know who will drop by the Chat Room. Try it for yourself next Sunday during the Live show from 6 to 10 pm Pacific.

Next week on the show, it's the annual Tribute to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper: The Day The Music Died. The entire 4th hour of next week's show will include lots of their great songs and even interview clips. Be sure to have a listen.

Is your birthday coming up soon? If so, please let me know the date so that I can help you celebrate your special day on the air. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com and I'll wish you Happy Birthday and play Birthday by The Beatles for you.

The Top Five Countdown this week is from 1964 the Number One song is I Want To Hold Your Hand by The Beatles. It's playing at the Treasure Island Oldies Blog. Enjoy!

Next week on Treasure Island Oldies, Voice Your Choice presents The Marvelettes with two of their hits. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Playboy or Don't Mess With Bill. I'll play the winner on next week's show.

The Marvelettes - Voice Your Choice

The Marvelettes formed in Insker, Michigan and were early stars with Motown Records, recording for their Tamla label. Gladys Horton formed the group with Georgeanna Marie Tillman Gordon, Wanda Young, Katherine Anderson and Juanita Cowart (who left the group in 1962).

Sadly two of the members, Gladys Horton and Georgeanna Gordon passed away, Gladys in 2011 and Georgeanna in 1980. Fortunately they left a legacy of Motown classics for everyone to continue to enjoy.

Treasure Island Oldies is pleased to present The Marvelettes on Voice Your Choice. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either Playboy or Don't Mess With Bill. I'll play the winner during next week's show.

The Beatles - Number One Song of the Week 1964

The Top Five Countdown this week on Treasure Island Oldies is from 1964 and here's the Number One song that started the British Music Invasion in earnest.

Here are The Beatles with I Want To Hold Your Hand live on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Enjoy!

This Week on Treasure Island Oldies - Week of January 23rd to 28th, 2017

Week of January 22nd, 2017 to January 28th, 2017

I need to start off this week's update by letting you know that the Chat Room has completely stopped working. I have no idea what has caused this situation; all I know is that it is no longer working. My webmaster, Eddy Fisher is searching for a replacement and we hope to have a new one in place by next week's show. Chat rooms do not seem as plentiful as they used to be and have become harder to find. Perhaps more people are chatting via text messages or Twitter; who knows. I will keep you informed of any updates as soon as they become available. In the meantime, my appreciation and thanks go out to long time listener Guylaine Côté in Quebec City. She has her own chat room and kindly offered the use of hers until the Treasure Island Oldies Chat Room is back up and working. Merci beaucoup, Guylaine!

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Fred Waterer in Ste. Catharines, Ontario, and to Wendy McDougall in Newton, South Australia. I inadvertently said Glenelg, South Australia, on the show. Oops! And if your birthday is coming up soon, please let me know the date so that I can help you celebrate your special day on the air. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com and I'll play Birthday by The Beatles, our official birthday anthem.

The Top Five Countdown this week is from 1965 and at the Number One song is Downtown by Petula Clark. It's playing at the Treasure Island Oldies Blog. Enjoy!

This Week on Treasure Island Oldies - Week of January 15th to 21st, 2017

Week of January 15th, 2017 to January 21st, 2017

We had another fun fours hours this week on Treasure Island Oldies and many thanks for your requests. It was nice to hear from Toni Howerton in Middletown, Ohio who requested a "cool" song by Tommy Roe, It's Now Winter's Day. I also played Sincerely by the McGuire Sisters for California Barb who wanted me to play it for her friend Alice. I also heard from some folks who were having problems getting into the c hat room. I have no answer or explanation, seeing as others were able to connect. When there are problems, whether it be a chat room connection or being able to listen to the Live stream, may I suggest a couple of options. First clear your browser cache.

Sometimes if there is a problem and you don't clear the cache, it can continue to happen. Another option is to switch to a different browser. For example, if you use Firefox, then try using Google or Windows Web Browser. Finally, you may also not want to use the same page to connect to the chat room and listen, if you are having issues. These are a few suggestions for you to try.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Judy Covington in Canton, Ohio, and Alice Bledsoe in Peoria, Illinois. All the best to you both! And if your birthday is approaching, please let me know the date so that I can help you celebrate your special date on the air. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com and I'll wish you Happy Birthday and also play Birthday by The Beatles, our official birthday anthem.

The Top Five Countdown this week is from 1968 and at the top is Judy In Disguise (With Glasses) by John Fred and His Playboy Band and it's playing at the Treasure Island Oldies Blog. Enjoy!

Next week on Treasure Island Oldies, Voice Your Choice presents Martha and the Vandells with two of their hits you don't often hear. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either In My Lonely Room or My Baby Loves Me. I'll play the winner on next week's show.

Here's this week's Rock and Roll News Podcast.

Have a great week and see you this coming Sunday for the next Live show.

Take good care and all the best.

Martha and The Vandellas - Voice Your Choice

Martha And The Vandellas were one of the key and most successful of the Motown Girl Groups. Martha Reeves was born July 18, 1941. The Vandellas consisted of Annette Beard and Rosalind Ashford. Annette left the group in 1963 and was replaced by Betty Kelly, who had been with The Velvelettes. Martha and The Vandellas were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.

Between 1963 and 1971, they had 23 Motown hits on the charts, including one Gold record and six Top Ten singles.

This week on Treasure Island Oldies, Voice Your Choice features Martha And The Vandellas with two of their many Motown hits. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either In My Lonely Room or My Baby Loves Me. I'll play the winner on next week's show.

John Fred and His Playboy Band - Number One Song this Week 1968

John Fred first started out in 1959 as John Fred and His Playboys and had a minor hit Shirley. He later changed the name to John Fred and His Playboy Band in 1967 and late in the year released Judy In Disguise (With Glasses).

By this week in 1968 it reached the top of the charts and is the Number One Song this week. So here they are, John Fred and His Playboy Band with Judy In Disguise (With Glasses).

Week of January 8th, 2017 to January 14th, 2017

It is so good to be back with you on the Island! And what a great way to start off the new year and the first show of 2017 with our annual New Year Dance Party. The tunes were jumping and the party atmosphere continued throughout the four hours.

I am very pleased to welcome the return of Space Coast iRadio.com in Melbourne, Florida to the Treasure Island Oldies Broadcast Partners Network. I hope to add more stations throughout the year. And what a year this is going to be as we will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the show  Sunday, May 7th. I still find it hard to believe that Treasure Island Oldies has been online for all these many years, since 1997 in fact!

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Shirley Ham in Cincinnati, Ohio. All the best to you Shirley! And if your birthday is approaching, please let me know the date so that I can help you celebrate your special date on the air. Send the details to birthdays@treasureislandoldies.com and I’ll wish you Happy Birthday and also play Birthday by The Beatles, our official birthday anthem.

The first Top Five Countdown of the year is from 1958 and at the top is Danny and The Juniors. At The Hop is the Number One song and it’s playing at the Treasure Island Oldies Blog. Enjoy!

Finally, I’d like to thank you for the wonderful comments I received from you on the Christmas Special and the amazing outpouring of your thoughts and love on the passing of my Mom. I very much appreciate it.

See you next Sunday for the next Live show.

Take good care and all the best.

Bye for now.

Michael

Ike and Tina Turner - Voice Your Choice

Ike and Tina Turner were a husband and wife duo who arrived on the charts in 1960. While they remained married from 1958 to 1976, it was a stormy and at times abusive relationship. During this period they formed the Ike and Tina Turner Review which also featured The Ikettes, Tina's backing vocalists, along with Ike's Kings of Rhythm.

Treasure Island Oldies spotlights two of their early hits on Voice Your Choice. Cast your vote at the Voice Your Choice page for either It's Gonna Work Out Fine or A Fool In Love. I'll play the winner on next week's show.

Danny and The Juniors - At The Hop - Number One Song of the Week

The first Top Five Countdown of the year on Treasure Island Oldies is from 1958. Every single song in the Top Five became a classic, including the number one song.

Here are Danny and the Juniors with a signature song of the Rock and Roll era and the Number One song this week in 1958. It's At The Hop!

Enjoy!
